How to decorate your livingroom

Since the living room is usually where people spend most of their (conscious) relaxation time at home, you want to make sure that your decor helps create the right atmosphere. We'll go over some various options, and help walk you step-by-step through some of the possibilities.
What's the right atmosphere?
That's entirely up to you, of course! Here's where things start getting exciting: you get to make your first decision. Do you want you living room to be formal and classical? Trendy and modern? Rustic country-style? Zen-calm? Or do you just want an eclectic haven of pure comfort and entertainment? Whatever you choose, your decision will help define the rest of your living room. While you're deciding, however, make sure you think about how much space you have available. If you're going for a grand ballroom look but you live in an apartment, you might have to re-consider (maybe not though! Being creative with space is a useful skill!). After available size, color is one of the most important aspects when it comes to creating atmosphere. Darker colors can create a more moody, sophisticated look, while lighter colors create a more open and fresh feeling.
SeatingOnce you've decided the overall style you're looking for, the next thing to think about is seating. No matter what style you've chosen, you'll want to be able to sit and relax, whether it's in front of the television or with some good friends. Choosing a sofa can be tricky, but luckily there are more options out there than you can possibly imagine - from two-person loveseats to huge 5 person sectional couches with attached chaises - just remember to consider the amount of space you have available. Cover material and color will have a big impact on the feeling of the room, so choose carefully. When choosing materials, don't forget to consider who'll be using the couch - if you live alone, your choices are limitless, but if you have kids or pets, be sure to choose a material that is sturdy as well as stylish.
You might want to add some additional seating to your living room, using what are known as 'accent chairs'. These chairs generally aren't used every day, but instead provide a stylistic counter-point to your sofa. Choose a complementary but different material or colour from your sofa to help create the right accent. Tables Once you've got your seating worked out, the next thing you'll want to consider is some kind of table space - you and your guests will want a place to put down drinks, tv remotes, magazines, etc. A coffee table is a traditional choice, but is not the only option - accent or sofa tables are also great choices. As with sofas, there are many different styles available, ranging from uniquely modern designs to classically carved and hand-painted styles, and everything in between. When choosing one, remember to think about your overall theme, and consider the following aspects:
MaterialsWood, glass, metal and plastic are all possible options.
Colors
As always, remember to think about your colour palette!
Size and Shape
